The Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott-trained mare Long Time Ago scored a good first up win in this Group Three race, her third win but her first at stakes level. She was ridden quietly by Kerrin McEvoy and settled back in tenth place. She improved behind a packed field nearing the home turn, got a split nearing the 200m, hit the front at the 50m and went on to win well in a promising effort. It was also a very good ride by McEvoy.

Mrs Gardenia had a good trip from her inside barrier (1) racing in fifth place on the rails. She briefly looked the winner when she got through to take the lead at the 200m and then fought well for a good (neck) second.

Oregon’s Day raced in third place but caught three wide without cover outside the leading pair. She challenged at the 300m and then fought on well to hold third after a difficult trip.
