Sad day at Longchamp

3 minute read

Sunday's racing at Longchamp was affected by the fatal accident to Coroebus.

The Godolphin 3yo son of Dubawi was running in the Prix du Moulin when he fell a suffered a fracture that was life-ending.  Coroebus was out of the mare First Victory and had started 7 times for 4 wins – which included the 2000 Guineas and the St James's Palace Stakes.  William Buick was on board but able to walk away although he had to give up a subsequent ride on West Wind Blows which won!

The day had started with Tigrais winning the Prix de la Rochette for Christophe Head and Adrien Lemaitre by a short head from favourite Breizh Sky.

The Gladiateur saw John Leeper lead for much of the race but that is not necessarily a good thing at Longchamp and sure enough the swoopers came led by Big Call and followed by The Good Man.

The Coupe de Maisons-Lafitte saw Monty win for our mate Andreas Schutz and Best of Lips run third for our friend Andreas Suborics.  Riocorvo was the meat in the sandwich.

The Moulin saw Dreamloper win for Ed Walker and Kieren Shoemark with Order of Australia second and The Revenant third.

Shoemark got the replacement ride on West Wind Blows for the Crisfords and the horse duly obliged winning the Prince d'Orange from Ilic 42/1 and Epic Poet.
