Sir Patrick Hogan Passes Away

Sir Patrick Hogan, a legendary New Zealand breeder, has passed away at the age of 83.

Sir Patrick founded Cambridge Stud in 1977 and was home to the famous sires Sir Tristram and his champion son, Zabeel, sire of current leading sire Savabeel.

Sir Patrick has been in ill heath for some time and disposed of Cambridge stud in 2017.

In 1992, Hogan was made a Commander of the Order of the British Empire for his contributions to Thoroughbred racing and was later appointed a Knight Companion of the New Zealand Order of Merit in 2000 for his services to Thoroughbred breeding and training.

Sir Patrick Hogan was inducted into the Australian Racing Hall of Fame in 2005 and the New Zealand Racing Hall of Fame in 2006.

Hogan left a lasting impact on breeding in Australasia through his renowned stud, which produced numerous successful Thoroughbreds.
